A 1000watt makeover

In case you haven’t noticed, we have redesigned our site and blog.

I hope you like it as much as we do.

I am quite sure we’ve made some obvious mistakes. We’ve been so close to this for the past couple weeks. So we welcome your feedback, positive or negative.

A few things to note:

We have re-done our Real Estate 2.0 Mind Map. We added two new categories — real estate APIs and slideshows/virtual tours/video — and jiggled most of the others, adding a bunch and removing some that were taking on certain zombie-like qualities. Let us know if you think we’ve missing something.

We’ve placed some of our presentations and publications on the site for anyone to download or view online. We’ll ad more now and then. Some of the slide decks suffer without our accompanying commentary, but we hope you’ll get the gist.

Under the hood, we moved the whole shebang over to WordPress. We liked Typepad two years ago. Now not so much.

Enjoy!

  1. I like the look and feel of it so far. Easy on the eyes. I like the new categories you added though, I’m exploring the API one now.

Great job guys. Congratulations. We need some of your colorful and insightful commentary here in Chicago. When’s your next Chi Town visit? Marinas open April 15th… did I mention I have a boat? ;)

  3. Simple, elegant, informative and the design is great. Congratulations. Very well done.

Love the new layout, the mind map is a great asset. However, I would consider looking at some other mind maps out there as I think the layout is a bit flat, and there are some really interesting things you can do with the structure and display of a mind map (if your willing to dig into some Javascript).

The colors and design are easy on the eyes and make it pleasant to look at for a while (so people can read through all the sites content). The addition of new content such at the presentations is great too. I think one of the hardest things for a consultant is figuring out the right balance of how much do you give away for free, and when do customer’s have to start paying. It’s easy to say giving more is better, but eventually you have to put food on the table. The slides give people a look at what you have to offer, if they want a real presentation, then they can contact you. Well done.

I really like the link text “who we are” and “what we do” are much more fresh than the typical links like “services” and “about.”

The last complaint, if you haven’t been getting lots of spam comments, I would really reconsider the captcha for comments. The effort of solving the cryptography known as captcha is more than enough to send potential commentators running. It may be worth a little spam to get more people commenting.

Really love the site, just tried to give some constructive criticism where I could. I figure that is more helpful than just saying “Way to go!” Great job though, really.

  5. Brian Boero says:

Thanks for the kind words and criticism!

@Erik your point on the captcha is well taken. We’ll probably ditch it. Regarding the map … we debated this a lot and ultimately went for simple. Did not want to gum it up with js.

Good stuff guys. A few little things:

    1) No “Home” link in the main nav is a no-no in my book
    2) You have Lorem Ipsum in the Media section

  7. Alex Mather says:

Oh, and I’d consider reformatting the phone number in the header to be (XXX) XXX-XXXX. I thought it was some random code at first because I didn’t recognize the area code.

  8. Brian Boero says:

    Alex:

Thanks. Not sure I agree with you on the “home” link, though it’s certainly debatable. And you are absolutely right about the phone number. Thanks for pointing that out!

  9. Congrats on the redesign guys…it looks super!

Very clean and easy to read the great information you provide in the blog etc.

  10. Simple, elegant, informative and the design is great. Congratulations. Very well done.
